CASSA
Arts Workshop

2016 - 2017

The CASSA Arts Workshop under the direction of Ruth Stenstrom, ATR-BC, is completing its 28th year of providing arts services for participants of Clean & Sober Streets. This year the Workshop is being assisted by Nisha Tracy and two George Washington University graduate art therapy interns -- Sonia Castro and Sarah Shoemaker.

Examples of fine artwork from our open studio program are shown below. In May work was begun on two murals. Phil S. painted a mural landscape in the the AA/NA public meeting room. Art therapy intern Sonia Castro worked with women in the program to design and paint a mural in the women’s snack bar/lounge area (see above).
Participants have also visited the National Gallery of Art and the newly renovated East Wing of the National Gallery of Art, the Phillips Collection, the Hirshhorn Gallery of Art, the Renwick Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Botanical Gardens, the National Postal Museum and the National American Indian Museum .
