CASSA Arts Workshop
2012 - 2013

The CASSA Arts Workshop under the direction of Ruth Stenstrom combined a program of art studio experiences, art therapy and bi-weekly trips to area art museums. In September we also expanded our music program which is highlighted on the CASSA Music page.

On December 19 we met with Mark Strandquist at the community based art exhibit “The Ripple Effect.” Mark did a special workshop at CASSA for the post card exhibit “Write Home Soon” with work from 30 organizations in the DC area. It ran until January 15 at the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington.

In December CASSA participants began working with fused glass to make a variety of luminous pendants.
On April 29, 2013 CASSA had a delightful reception to celebrate the contributions of George Washington University graduate art therapy interns, Monica Ventura and Meagan Oliphant (pictured left with C&SS Director Julia Lightfoot) have been working with us since September. They shared their expertise in drawing, photography and painting to the workshop’s Open Studio program, as well as providing individual and group art therapy services . As a part of the celebration, participants made several group paintings; “Serenity” (pictured on top), a Mandala and a small geometric design. In addition, we designed and painted on black and white “Recovery Rocks” for a temporary installation (pictured above).
